My Top Turkish TV series Muhteşem yüzyıl (Hareem Al Sultan)

From all the TV series that I have seen so far Muhteşem Yüzyıl is going to make my Top List of TV shows and is unfortunately kicking Chuck to 2nd place.
I loved watching all 5 seasons of Chuck and never thought another show would take its place, this was before I even knew about this Turkish Series which premiered in the Arab world in the end of 2011.

There have been other Turkish series that have been dubbed in Arabic and which I followed to the end more as a daily entertainment show since I am not the going out type of person but I couldn’t say I loved them as to want to watch them again.

Hareem Al Sultan is the Arabic title to the series it refers to the wives ( hareem pl. to hurma – wife) of the sultan. More particular all woman who were privately involved with the sultan.
Since we don’t know what has happened between closed doors in the private life of Suleiman the Magnificent we can only speculate. This is where this series jumps in, it is a fictional historical piece of art which is inspired by sultan Suleiman and takes us back 500 years ago to the era of the Ottoman Empire.
The main focus is on the relationships between the members of the Imperial household especially romance entanglements and rivalries.
This makes the story so much more interesting I already became infatuated with it and can hardly take my eyes of the screen, sleepless nights are not so unusual.

So far there have been 2 complete seasons with a total of 63 episodes from 70 – 130 min. in the Turkish series, yet in the Arabic dubbed version I need to watch 3 episodes which make up 1 episode to the original Turkish streaming episode. Sometimes it is frustrating just to be cut off, but after all I feel that I am lucky cause being able to speak Arabic I don’t need to rely on English subtitles, I share the joy, sadness and suffering for the actors of the show. They truly lived up to their role.

It is very detailed and descriptive and I liked it very much.

Many rumors have been towards the 3rd season which is now airing on Turkish Star TV, one of them being that they wanted to bring an international well-known actor who played the role of a Mongolian Khan in a side role.
I don’t know upon who took the role in the end, my last source tells me they got Mel Gibson but I couldn’t get it confirmed.

For sure we will know soon enough.
I am still watching the episodes of season 2 without cheating, one by one. And though I might have taken a lead to the episodes shown on Arabic TV satellite, since I watch them online via Alarab TV (it’s an Arabic website). It is a joy to watch them over and over again.

The first season of Hareem Al Sultan is showing on several public Nilesat channels, I watch it on 7 pm KSA time (4 GMT) on Alhayat Musalsalat. It might have reached the mid 20s episodes.
The second season of Hareem Al Sultan I watch on 8 pm KSA (5 GMT) on Dubai TV. The premiere was last Saturday, so today was the 5th episode.

Since its begin it has captured the viewers on the national basis, furthermore reaching to the Arab world and becoming one of the popular Turkish series which in my eyes will have international attention confirmed.

The series is giving us a glimpse how the past could have been. The decor of the structure, the costumes, the details of the scenery beautifully presented lets me imagine how much work has been put up which shouldn’t go not accredited.
In my opinion Muhtesem Yuzyil as a series is a masterpiece of a kind of Turkish Historical Fiction TV.

  1. Hi, could you be able to translate some episodes into English? I’ve seen it up to episode 35 (Turkish version) in Persian dubbing but for whatever reason they stopped doing it. I’m dying to know what happens next 😦

    • I know the feeling. Do you speak of Season 1 or 2? In case you understand Arabic, you could watch the show on Alarab, up to now they uploaded some Flash videos for third season with Arabic subtitles. To translate the episodes with subtitles in English is very time consuming, you need to know the format of the video and integrate the subtitle into the video file or save as stand alone srt-file but must be equal to video file else it won’t be read. If I have some free time, I could do some episodes – but it needs patience.

  2. I really want to watch this show but I can’t find any site that shows them with English subtitles. OSN does it but I can’t afford the subscription. Is there anywhere you know of where you can watch them with Eng subs for free?

  3. Hello, I agree that this is one of the best Turkish Series. There are a lot of Turkish Series but I haven’t been really attached to watching them as much as Hareem Al Sultan. I watched Season 1 and Season 2 on Al Arab TV website with the arabic dubbing. Now that I’m ready to watch Season 3 the website does not have it dubbed in arabic just with arabic subtitles, and with my bad luck I don’t read arabic. Do you know of a different website that might have it dubbed in arabic or in english? It’s so frustrating feeling cut off. 😦

    • The theme as well as the colors are pre installed by WordPress, there is a defaults layout, the blog content is up to oneself, you can change the themes according to what you like there are free ones like these. Only the blog content and the organizational style is from me I did with the help of WordPress Help site. Most of the codes and use of plugins are explained. And many forums offer help and advice.
